 Baby Alien

Stands about 10cm tall ideal for keyrings

Materials/equipment

DK in all 2 colours Green and Cream

Keyring chain if required (optional)

X2 8mm safety eyes 

3mm knitting needles 


Abbreviations used in this pattern

k Knit

p Purl

k2t Knit 2 together

p2t Purl 2 together

inc increase (Knit into front and back(KFB), or your preferred method)

st stitches

ss stocking stitch, (k 1 row, purl 1 row)

gs garter stitch, (knit all rows)

(--) x?  repeat instruction inside bracket the number of time stated {e,g x2 = twice}

Turn    work stated number of stitches and turn without wrapping 

W+T wrap and turn, after knitting required number of stitches wrap wool around next stitch without knitting and turn work

PSSO pass slipped stitch over last knitted stitch.

Sl 1 slip next stitch without knitting


Pattern

Starting at the bottom working up towards the head.

  1. in green cast on 6 st

  2. inc in all st 12st

  3. p 1 row

  4. (k1, inc) x6 18st

  5. p 1 row

  6. (k2, inc) x6 24st

  7. p 1 row

  8. (k3, inc) x6 30st

  9. Change to cream wool,

P 2 rows

  1. P14, k2, p 14

  2. K 1 row

  3. Repeat last 2 rows 8 more times, (16 rows)

Short row 

  1. K15 turn

Working only on these 15 st

  1. K 15 turn (reverse ss)

  2. P 15

  3. Repeat last 2 rows twice more(6 rows in total.  Cut yarn leaving a long end (15cm).

  4. Rejoin yarn to OTHER 15st, k15

  5. K 15 turn (reverse ss)

  6. P 15

  7. Repeat last 2 rows twice more (6 rows in total).  Cut yarn leaving long end.

You should have something like this, 15 stitches either side of a centre gap.


  1. Change to green wool. With wrong side facing  purl across all 30st

  2.  Ss 4 rows starting with K. 30st


Rear of work should look similar to this. Using cream and long end sew corresponding purl bumps, (in a continuous), top to bottom motion.

Do this to the end of the row, if your yarn is too short, sew one side then the other.

Pull yarn tight (you will need these later do NOT cut) , you have just formed the collar and it should look similar to this. There should be a hole at the front centre.


  1. Continue with green ss 8 rows, starting with a k row. 

  2. (k1, k2t) x10 20st

  3. P 1 row

  4. K2t x10 10st


Cut wool, Bind off by threading wool through stitches on needle and sewing row ends together (only on green section). Making sure to place eyes and stuff (green part). Sew bottom green section row ends together.

Starting at the bottom of the cream, nearest cast on edge, sew row ends together. Make sure the yarn used to form the collar is outside, pausing to stuff before sealing. Once fully stuffed pull collar yarn to create Neck and secure by weaving in ends.


Arms make 2 

  1. Starting with green cast on 4 st

  2. Ss 2 rows start with k

  3. Change to cream, ss 9rows start with k 

  4. p2t, p2t, 2st

  5. Cut wool, Bind off by threading wool through stitches on needle and sewing row ends together,

OR

Arms make 2 Alternative icord method


  1. Starting with green cast on 4 st

  2. Icord for 2 rows

  3. Change to cream, icord 9rows,

  4. K2t, k2t, 2st

  5. Cut wool, Bind off by threading wool through stitches on needle and sewing row ends together. 

Sew row ends together (if you didn't use icord). Sew cream end of arm  to body underneath collar. See Picture.


Ears make 2

  1. Cast on 12st

  2. K4 (k2t)x2 k4 10st

  3. 3 rows of ss start with p

  4. K3, (k2t)x2 k3 8st

  5. 3 rows of ss start with p

  6. K2, (k2t)x2 k2 6st

  7. P1, (p2t)x2 p1 4st

  8. Cut wool, Bind off by threading wool through stitches on needle. Sew on to head see photo for positioning. 


Nose

To make nose oversew 4 or 5 times just above collar

secure key chain to centre top of head making sure it does not come loose.
