    Cast off

Join side seams and thread yarn through cast on stitches to form a sack.

Fill with stuffing or sweets/toys. Use a red ribbon to thread through holes and draw up and tie with a bow. Alternatively you could use a twisted cord.

TO MAKE UP.

Firstly with cardboard make five matching pieces to go inside the knitted pieces. Insert card inside base piece only at this point Do not place other pieces inside yet. Seam SIDE edges of the base panel at this point (or close them when you attach each SIDE piece.)

With the knitted pieces.

Place the base piece with carpet side up in front of you. Place each side panel along the long sides of the base piece (making sure the short ends of each piece are at the same end),  attach cast on/off seam of side pieces to base..

Place the front knitted panel at front and sew in place again along the cast on/off edge.

When attached, insert card for front panel.

Sew front panel side seems to side panels.

Sew rear panel on to base piece along cast on/off seam.

The remaining three pieces of card should be attached by sellotape to each other to form a piece that resembles the picture below. This will give the sled stability.(You do not have to do this, you could sew each piece of card separately inside each panel but the end result will not be as stable) Once the card is placed inside, the pieces, the remaining seams can be sewn up.(BACK PANEL TO SIDE SEAMS,on each side)

Once all side seams are sewn It should resemble this shape.

Seat Make up and Placement

Use a tube from an empty kitchen paper towel roll. Cut to the width of the sled approx 10cm.Then Cut down the length of the tube and roll up tightly, place inside the “seat” knitting piece,(it will unroll to size of knitting) the ends will be open,as they will be wedged against each side of the sled. Placement  will depend on your santa. I placed mine one third from the front and food board as I wanted my santa to sit. If your santa is standing you will want your seat further back (about half way). This can be sewn or glued into place.

Runners

Place the runners along the bottom of the sled with pins at first before sawing into place. There should be an overhang at the front of 3cm and approx 9cm at the rear. When you are  happy with placement and shape sew into place. Do this both sides.(If you wish you could glue into place but this can be quite messy, I preferred to sew)

Place sacks in side Sled and you are finished
